Free tools

Estimating calculators.

Two tools we built for our own estimators, free for you to use. No sign-up to run them.

2.0Why we built them

Built from real estimating work, not generic formulas.

These are the same calculations our estimators use on live tenders. We built them because the quick numbers, trench quantities and core hole counts, are where a rushed takeoff most often goes wrong, and where a contractor most often loses money.

They will give you a sound line item in seconds. What they will not do is read the whole job: the site access, the compliance requirements, the scope that lives between the drawings. That is what a full estimate is for.

These are shortcuts. We do the whole job.

3.0When to use them

Which tool, and when.

3.01 — Bedding & Spoil

When to use the Bedding & Spoil Calculator

Use it when you have your pipe runs and need trench quantities fast: how much bedding, embedment and backfill a run needs, and how much spoil comes out. It handles the full embedment envelope, not just the layer under the pipe.

3.02 — Core Hole

When to use the Core Hole Calculator

Use it when you are pricing slab and wall penetrations on a multi-level job. Enter your fixture counts and it sizes the core each fixture needs, counts the penetrations through each level and costs the lot.

3.03 — Full estimate

These are shortcuts. We do the whole job.

A calculator gives you one line item. Send us the drawings and you get the full hydraulic package priced, itemised and ready to tender.

4.0Questions

Common questions.

Are the calculators free?

Yes. Both are free to use with no sign-up. We built them for our own estimators and published them for the industry.

Can I use a calculator result in a tender?

It gives you a sound line item, but not a tender. A calculator cannot read site access, compliance requirements or the scope that lives between the drawings. For a tender you need the full estimate.

What does the bedding and spoil calculator do?

It works out trench quantities from your pipe runs: bedding, embedment, backfill and spoil in cubic metres or tonnes, with material densities built in and the full embedment envelope accounted for.

What does the core hole calculator do?

It prices slab and wall penetrations from your fixture counts, sizing the core each fixture needs, counting the penetrations through each level and costing the lot.

Do you store what I enter?

The calculators run in your browser and there is no sign-up required to use them.
